safe way; all delivered in a bespoke learning environment that mimics a home setting.”
Activate Learning are also offering a Level 5 diploma qualification, for an assistant practitioner (health), with an option to take it as an apprenticeship. The programme is aimed at residential care workers who want to upskill to a level 5 qualification to meet the changing needs of the sector, due to the reduction in qualified nurses in care homes.
The two year programme is parttime, so candidates can stay with their current employer and study at the same time. With a view that many care homes won’t have the resources for a permanent nurse or clinician, this programme will equip students to carry out some key procedures without supervision.
Plus, by using the government’s 19+ ‘Advanced Learner Loan’, students aged
19+ may be eligible to apply for a loan to cover tuition fees. The loans are not meanstested or subject to credit checks and students only start repaying when they earn over £21,000 per year.
Another programme coming soon to Activate Learning, is ‘Introduction to Counselling’, aimed at supporting youth workers. The nationally recognised qualification is intended for professionals who want to learn basic counselling skills in helping roles. The parttime course will enable you to gain key listening and responding skills, with a Level 2 qualification upon completion.
Laura Asbridge, continues: “To support our focus on health and social care training, we have recently invested in a new Care Suite at the City of Oxford College campus. The facility, supported by a grant of nearly £400,000 from OxLEP, provides a simulated hospital ward complete with medicine storage and hand washing stations and a home care training suite, designed to model a
residential care home. The facilities are also available to meet the staff training needs of local healthcare organisations.”
